Report 4. Thin Lap Shear Joint Testing Summary Report

This report provides a summary of two separate reports on mechanical testing of mild steel lap shear joints. Tests were performed at quasi-static test rate or 2mm/min and also at impact tests speeds of 0.3m/s, 2m/s and 8m/s. The joints were made with two adhesives, either a one-part rubber toughened epoxy adhesive, AV119 (Araldite 2007) from Ciba (now Vantico) or a two-part acrylic adhesive, F241 from Permabond. The dimensions of the joint such as overlap length, bond thickness, adherend thickness and joint width were varied. The results reported are the joint failure loads and an analysis of the failure surfaces.
