Report 6. Test Methods for Determining Shear Property Data for Adhesives Suitable for Design. Part 1: Notched-beam shear (Iosipescu) and notched-plate shear (Arcan) methods for bulk and joint test specimens. Part B: Full Report.
This report provides full details of the experimental and modelling programme of tests using the notched-beam shear (Iosipescu) and notched-plate shear (Arcan) shear test methods. Four adhesives were investigated: a one-part rubber toughened epoxy, AV119 (Araldite 2007) from Ciba (now Vantico); a two-part epoxy, TE251 from Evode; a two-part polyurethane, Scotchweld 3532 from 3M; a two-part toughened acrylic, F241 from Permabond. The report provides details of the experimental programme, the test specimens used, the modulus measurements made and the measurement of stress-strain to failure, along with giving recommendations on the use of notched specimen shear tests.
