MERL offers a multi-disciplinary approach to the use of adhesives, combining chemical and engineering knowledge. MERL services aim to provide a high level of confidence that joint integrity will be maintained during service life at the design and development stage. As well as bespoke projects. a number of industry funded consortium research projects have been completed aimed at developing test methods for assessing durability and analysis methods for predicting joint life. Public funding is also used for the development of new standard test methods. Staff are also involved in standards committees.
